Dunkelstein Forest Trail 2027: A Journey Through Hidden Natural Beauty
The Dunkelstein Forest, nestled between the Danube River and the foothills of the Alps, offers runners an enchanting blend of ancient forests, moss-covered paths, striking rock formations, and breathtaking views of the Wachau Valley. This trail event invites participants to immerse themselves in a unique adventure that combines challenging terrain with stunning natural scenery.
Participants have two options for their journey:
KLOSTER TRAIL 42 Kilometers: Starting from Göttweig Abbey and ending at Aggstein Castle, this route covers nearly half-marathon distance through the heart of Dunkelstein Forest. Runners will navigate winding trails that wind past towering trees and along rocky outcrops.
WALD TRAIL 23 Kilometers: For those who prefer a shorter but equally scenic experience, this trail begins in Rossatz and leads to Aggstein Castle as well. It offers an intimate look at the forest's beauty over a more manageable distance.
Both routes are designed for both wanderers and trail runners, providing opportunities to explore hidden gems while enjoying the rich history and culture of the region. The event promises not only physical challenge but also a chance to connect with nature in its most pristine form.
