Doc Dash 2027

Since its inception in 1989, Doc Dash has been an integral part of the Carver College of Medicine's tradition. This annual 5K race welcomes runners, joggers, walkers, and even young children for a fun-filled morning through Iowa City’s vibrant neighborhoods and scenic river trail. The event kicks off with a shorter ‘Docling Dash’ in the Medical Education and Research Facility courtyard, designed specifically for kids to enjoy their own mini-race before the main event.
Participants start from the medical campus and wind their way through charming local streets lined with trees and historic buildings. As they approach the river trail, runners are treated to picturesque views of the water and lush greenery. The course then loops back towards the finish line on the college grounds, providing a sense of community as friends and family cheer for everyone crossing.
Proceeds from Doc Dash support crucial healthcare initiatives in Iowa City, including the Free Medical and Dental Clinic and the University of Iowa Mobile Clinic. These clinics serve uninsured or under-insured populations and rely heavily on volunteers from various healthcare disciplines within the university to train future professionals. By participating, runners not only enjoy a beautiful route but also contribute directly to enhancing access to medical care for those in need.
This year’s event takes place on May 1, 2027, offering participants another chance to be part of this meaningful and spirited tradition that blends athletic competition with community service.
