About the Event

The Deccan Ultra, organized by Grand Indian Trails, invites runners to explore the rugged and picturesque terrain of Maharashtra’s Sahyadri Range. This challenging race offers various distances catering to both seasoned ultrarunners and enthusiastic trail enthusiasts.
Scheduled for January 24, 2027, participants will embark on a journey through diverse landscapes that include serene lakes, dense forests, and steep climbs over historic forts. The route features the highest peak in Maharashtra—Kalsubai at an altitude of 1646 meters—and three formidable peaks known as Alanggad, Madangad, and Kulanggad.
The race offers multiple categories to choose from:
- Ultra Distance (161km): With a total elevation gain of 5735 meters, this challenging route includes climbing Kalsubai peak. Participants have up to 33 hours to complete the course.

- Long Distance (115km and 80km): Both routes feature significant climbs with respective gains of 4383m for the 115km race and 3560m for the 80km. Cut-off times are set at 25 hours and 18 hours, respectively.

- Medium Distance (55km and 35km): These routes offer a mix of scenic trails with elevation gains of 2146 meters and 1880 meters. The cut-offs for these distances are 12 hours and 8 hours.
For the more adventurous, shorter but equally challenging options include:
- Short Distance (21km and 15km): These routes provide a taste of the terrain with elevation gains up to 915m and 854m. Participants have six hours for the longer distance and three hours for the shorter one.

- Vertical Kilometer (VK) (7.5km): This technical route involves climbing over 1107 meters in just two hours, reaching a peak altitude of 1550 meters.
The race begins at midnight on January 24th with the start of the ultra-distance races and continues through various flag-off times for shorter distances throughout the morning. The event concludes by early afternoon on January 25th, with cutoffs allowing ample time to complete each distance within set limits.
Participants will experience breathtaking views of the Deccan Plateau from vantage points along the route, including iconic landmarks such as Bhandardara Dam and Windmill Mountain Top. Iron ladders are provided for near-vertical sections, ensuring safety while maintaining an adventurous spirit.
Registration requirements vary by category; some distances require previous race accomplishments to ensure participants can handle the challenging terrain safely.
