Whether you're a seasoned trail runner or just looking for a unique way to explore this charming town, there’s something for everyone at this inaugural event.
### Race Distances
The race offers two main distances: the 5K and Half Marathon, both set against the backdrop of the scenic Creeper Trail. For those seeking an additional thrill, an optional Polar Plunge & Sauna session awaits participants after their run.
#### 5K Experience
Starting at 9:00 AM on a crisp winter morning, the 5K route takes runners through part of the famous 34-mile crushed-limestone Creeper Trail. This rail trail is renowned for its scenic beauty and fast terrain, making it ideal for both casual strollers and those looking to challenge themselves.
The easy-to-navigate path offers sections of gravel trails that are very approachable even for first-time trail runners. After crossing a brief road section early on, the route continues along well-maintained paths lined with winter scenery. The 5K concludes in Damascus, where participants can enjoy an optional Polar Plunge and Sauna session at Trail Town Fitness before exploring local shops or joining festive holiday events.
#### Half Marathon Journey
For those aiming for a longer adventure, the half marathon starts earlier to allow runners more time on the trails while still fitting in the post-run festivities. The course takes advantage of the Creeper Trail’s fast and scenic sections, providing an excellent opportunity for personal records (PRs) in cool winter weather.
Participants will be treated to stunning Appalachian landscapes throughout their run, with aid stations offering water and energy gels along the way. After crossing the finish line, runners can head over to Trail Town Fitness for a recovery session that includes Polar Plunge, sauna time, yoga classes, and more before joining holiday shopping events in town.

After your race or plunge into icy waters, don’t miss out on the full winter experience Damascus has to offer. The weekend is packed with family-friendly activities such as the Trail Town Christmas Parade featuring festive floats and a dog costume contest led by Clydesdales. Santa will be available for photos at the Fire Hall after the parade.
On December 5th, enjoy live music, handmade gifts, vintage finds, art, homemade treats, and more during A Christmas Market held from noon to 6pm at the Damascus Old Mill Inn. It’s a perfect blend of holiday cheer and community spirit that complements your running adventure beautifully.
