Nestled in the picturesque town of Delaplane, Virginia, the Barrel Oak Turkey Trot 3K & 6K returns as an annual tradition on November 15th. This race offers runners and walkers alike two scenic courses through the vineyards and trails of Barrel Oak Winery, providing a perfect pre-Thanksgiving run amidst fall's golden hues. Race morning in Delaplane is set against a backdrop of vibrant foliage, with crisp air adding to the invigorating atmosphere. Participants can gather under this canopy before setting off on their journey. The event welcomes walkers and leashed pets, creating an inclusive and casual environment for all ages. The 3K course measures approximately two miles, weaving through Barrel Oak’s vineyards before looping back near the tasting room where runners can enjoy light refreshments post-race. This shorter distance offers a manageable challenge with stunning views of the winery's landscape. For those seeking a longer run, the 6K stretches over four miles of varied terrain starting at Barrel Oak’s main entrance on Wine Road. The course features undulating paths that offer both gentle slopes and picturesque vistas, making it an enjoyable yet challenging experience for runners. On race day, anticipate temperatures ranging from 3.8°C to 13.3°C with average wind speeds of around 11.7 km/h, which may make the air feel slightly cooler than expected. Humidity levels are generally comfortable at 64.5%, but participants should still prepare for some brisk conditions. Registration is available online through https://raceroster.com/events/2026/118215/barrel-oak-turkey-trot-3k-and-6k, with fees of $33.63 for the 3K and $44.30 for the 6K. Virtual participation is also offered at lower costs: $20.82 for a medal-only option, $33.63 for a medal and shirt, or just $12.28 if you prefer to run on your own time. Bibs can be picked up from Barrel Oak Winery between 8:00 AM and 9:15 AM on race morning with a valid government-issued ID required for collection. Runners are encouraged to wear comfortable running shoes, appropriate layers for the cooler temperatures, and bring water bottles or hydration packs. The event supports local charities and scholarships, making it more than just about running but also giving back to the community. Whether you’re a seasoned runner looking for a fun challenge or a first-timer eager to explore Barrel Oak’s trails, this Turkey Trot offers an unforgettable experience in one of Virginia's most charming towns.
