The Run Across CT 123 returns for its second year, inviting ultrarunners to traverse Connecticut’s diverse landscapes on a point-to-point course spanning an impressive 123 miles. Starting from East Thompson and finishing at the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club in Southport, this challenging yet accessible route offers runners a unique blend of well-maintained trails through classic New England forests and scenic backroads that pass quaint towns and coastal areas.
With low to moderate elevation changes totaling around 4,000 feet ascent and 4,500 feet descent, the course ensures steady progress without overwhelming climbs. Aid stations staffed by volunteers are strategically placed along the route, providing essential hydration, snacks, and medical support throughout the grueling 36-hour cutoff period.
Participants can anticipate a close-knit community atmosphere as they push through the night under headlamps, greeted by sunrise in forest corridors and midday runs past charming Connecticut towns. The race culminates with cheers at Southport’s beachside finish line, where runners receive medals and custom belt buckles for completing this coast-to-coast adventure.
Early registration is recommended due to limited field size and complex route logistics. Runners should prepare for variable spring weather conditions by packing layers, rain jackets, and backup gear. The 36-hour cutoff allows a flexible pace but requires an average speed of approximately 4 mph to finish before the Sunday deadline.
