Crystal Springs Ultra Races

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Crystal Springs Recreation Area in Wytheville, Virginia, the Crystal Springs Trail Races offer runners a challenging and scenic experience on August 14, 2027. The race features diverse terrain along trails such as High Rocks Spur and Boundary Loop, presenting technical sections that will test even seasoned trail runners.
Participants can choose from several distance options: a grueling 36-mile loop with nearly two thousand feet of elevation gain, or the slightly more manageable yet still challenging 24- and 12-mile courses. The shorter distances include the Crystal Light option (a four-mile trek featuring a waterfall if recent rains have filled it) and a family-friendly kids' run.
Race day starts early at 7:30 AM for the longer races, with cutoff times of 7 PM to ensure safety on the trails. A more relaxed start time of noon is set aside specifically for young runners tackling the two-mile course. All participants are required to take part in a shuttle service from Pump Hollow Road due to limited parking at Crystal Springs.
Aid stations along each route provide essential supplies like PB&J sandwiches, bananas, and energy gels, ensuring that runners can stay fueled throughout their journey. The race is also introducing the Leftover Option for those looking for an economical entry without extra swag or perks—limited spots are available for this unique challenge.
Whether you're training for a bigger event later in the year or simply seeking adventure on rugged trails, Crystal Springs Trail Races offers something special for trail runners of all levels.
