Coniston Fell Race

Coniston Fell Race, set for May 1, 2027, invites experienced fell runners to tackle its challenging and scenic route through the heart of Lakeland. This classic race features steep ascents, rough terrain, and exhilarating ridge running that showcases the area's stunning natural beauty.
Registration takes place at Coniston Institute from 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM on race day, with parking available at a nearby primary school for £5 per car. All participants must carry FRA-mandated kit and pass a pre-race check to ensure they are prepared for the rugged course.
The race begins near Copper Mines Road and winds through three checkpoints atop Wetherlam, Swirl How, and Old Man before finishing at Peasecroft. Runners will navigate using traditional map and compass skills, with no GPS devices allowed except in emergencies.
A strict 90-minute cut-off exists at Swirl Hause; inclement weather may shorten this time. Teas, coffees, and cakes are available for purchase from Coniston CE Primary School starting at 10:00 AM to support the local community.
Race numbers must be visible throughout the course and prizes will be awarded in the institute at 2:30 PM, including a £100 voucher for new men's or women's records. All proceeds benefit Coniston Mountain Rescue Team and Coniston CE Primary School.
