Join Excelsior Running Club for the fourth annual Blue Heron Lake 5K, set to take place on Saturday, July 10th, 2027. This scenic race is part of the Pacific Association-USA Track & Field (PA USAT&F) Road Short Course Grand Prix Series and offers a challenging yet enjoyable course through Golden Gate Park. The event starts at JFK Boulevard near Peacock Meadow in Golden Gate Park and follows a rolling route that loops around Blue Heron Lake, offering runners stunning views of the lake's serene waters. With 135 feet of elevation gain throughout the race, participants can expect an engaging mix of flat stretches and gentle hills as they navigate through this picturesque setting. The event is open to all ages and abilities, welcoming both competitive athletes and recreational runners alike. A dedicated elite field will be present for those looking to test their speed against top-tier competition, while non-elite participants are encouraged to join in the fun without the pressure of competing for prizes. PAUSATF membership is required for prize money payouts; however, all other race participants can enjoy the experience regardless. To ensure a safe and fair event, USATF athletes are prohibited from using headphones during the race as per competition rules. Non-USATF runners may choose to use headphones but should exercise caution and remain aware of their surroundings at all times. Additionally, strollers must start at the back of the pack and be mindful not to impede other participants. Race day amenities include portable bathrooms located in Peacock Meadows, with additional public restrooms available throughout Golden Gate Park: near the tennis courts (50 Bowling Green Dr), at the Conservatory of Flowers, by the carousel/playground area (300 Bowling Green Dr), and around Blue Heron Lake. Registration fees vary depending on when you sign up: - Super Early Bird ($50 + service fee): Through April 30th - Early Bird ($55 + service fee): May 1st through May 31st - Regular Registration ($60 + service fee): June 1st through July 3rd - Race Day ($65 + service fee): Available on-site U18 participants can register for $30 (+ service fee), and a Parent-Child admission option is available at $80 (+ service fee).
