BL Walltown Quarry

Set against the historic backdrop of Hadrian's Wall, the Walltown Quarry Country Park Orienteering Event offers runners and enthusiasts an engaging mix of natural beauty and technical challenge. Located within an old quarry that has been transformed into a compact country park, this event features an extensive trail network winding through deciduous woodland and open grassland.
Participants can choose from three courses: Long (3.5 km), Medium (2.2 km), or Short (1.4 km). Each course is designed to test navigation skills with technical elements that cater to different levels of experience, making it suitable for both beginners and seasoned orienteers. The event encourages group participation, allowing teams or pairs to share a single entry map at an additional cost.
While on-site coaching isn't provided this year, staff will be available to assist newcomers in understanding the basics of orienteering before they start their course. Dibber devices are also available for hire by pre-ordering online; those not returned incur a £30 fee.
The event takes place from 11:00 to 12:00, with courses closing at 13:30. Start and finish lines are conveniently located near the enquiry/download area, making it easy for participants to manage their time efficiently throughout the day. Hard standing parking is available along with toilets in the visitor center.
Tea and coffee will be served on-site; please bring your own mug to help reduce waste. Well-behaved dogs are welcome if kept on leads at all times.
For those unable to attend, cancellations must be made via email before the closing date for a refund minus an administrative fee of £1 per person. Course changes can also be managed online up until this point but will not typically be possible day-of due to pre-printed maps based on initial entries.
Join us at Walltown Quarry Country Park on October 24, 2026, and experience the unique blend of nature and precision that defines orienteering.
