BigMud, the first installment of the Classic Element Trail Series, invites trail runners to immerse themselves in nature's raw power as they traverse the scenic Meon Valley. Now entering its sixth year, this challenging and rewarding race is designed for those who seek an authentic earth-bound adventure. The event offers three distinct distances: a 50K ultramarathon, a marathon, and a shorter yet equally engaging 16-mile course. All races start at Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Hampshire, taking runners on a single lap journey that includes two ascents of Butser Hill, the highest point in the South Downs National Park. Participants will encounter varied terrain, from muddy hills to rolling trails, providing an unforgettable mix of challenges and breathtaking scenery. The race's atmosphere is characterized by enthusiastic volunteers and fellow competitors who share a passion for trail running. This supportive environment ensures that even as runners push their limits, they are encouraged every step of the way. Registration takes place on event day at Queen Elizabeth Country Park, with specific times allocated to each distance. Mandatory kit includes carrying 500ml of fluid, suitable clothing for changing weather conditions, and a wearable device or mobile phone pre-loaded with the GPX route file for navigation assistance. Aid stations are well-placed along the course, offering ample supplies including snacks, water, flat coke, and PH 1000 electrolyte liquid from Precision Fuel & Hydration. This partnership ensures runners have access to essential hydration and energy during their run. BigMud also offers participants a unique opportunity through its Trees Not Tees initiative, allowing them to plant trees instead of receiving traditional finisher medals. The event's focus on sustainability aligns with the natural setting while providing an extra layer of meaning for those who choose this option. With cut-off times in place to ensure safety and smooth race management, BigMud promises a memorable experience that combines physical challenge with scenic beauty and community spirit. Whether you're tackling the ultramarathon or enjoying the shorter 16-mile course, prepare yourself for an adventure that celebrates both nature's strength and your own endurance. Registration fees vary by distance: £44 for the 16 miles run, £58 for the marathon, and £68 for the 50K ultramarathon. Canicross entries are not accepted at this event.
