Paiute Meadows Trail Run

The Paiute Meadows Trail Run returns to Susanville, California on Saturday, May 9, 2026, marking its 30th anniversary as one of the premier regional running events. Organized by the Lassen Land and Trails Trust, this celebrated race takes place in the picturesque setting of Susanville Ranch Park, known for its extensive network of single-track trails that wind through towering pine forests and expansive meadows.
The event caters to a diverse range of runners with distances ranging from a short community run to an ultra-marathon. All races start and finish at Susanville Ranch Park, offering participants the chance to experience the beauty and challenges of the park's varied terrain. The trail system showcases rocky climbs, steep descents, and breathtaking views that highlight the unique transition zone between the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Great Basin high desert.
The 50K race begins early in the morning at 6:30 AM with a two-loop course totaling nearly 32 miles. For those looking for a shorter but equally challenging experience, there's also a 30K option that covers about 18.7 miles on a single loop through pine forests and open meadows. The half marathon starts an hour later at 7:30 AM with its own unique course of 13.7 miles, featuring water crossings due to spring runoff in the region.
Aimed at promoting inclusivity and environmental stewardship, the event includes a special category for children and Special Olympians with a free one-mile trail race. Participants are encouraged to carry their own hydration vessels as this is a cupless race, ensuring minimal waste while enjoying aid stations along the way that provide essential electrolytes, gels, and fresh fruit.
Registration packets can be picked up at the Susanville Historic Train Depot on Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM. Late registration for out-of-town runners will also be available starting Saturday morning at 6 AM directly at the race site. All proceeds from this event support local land conservation efforts managed by the Lassen Land and Trails Trust, including maintenance of trails such as the Bizz Johnson Trail and Modoc Line Rail Trail.
With its scenic beauty and challenging terrain, the Paiute Meadows Trail Run offers a memorable experience for runners looking to explore the unique landscapes around Susanville.
The mild temperatures in early May make it an ideal time to test your endurance amidst stunning natural settings.
