About the Event

The Noyako Onsen Cycling Festival, held on October 3rd and 4th, 2026, offers cyclists an unforgettable experience across the vast terrain of Noyako Ski Resort. This year marks the sixth edition of this event, which aims to promote cycling tourism in the region during the green season.
The festival features three distinct events: Hill Climb, Adventure Downhill, and Gravel & Adventure Touring. Each race is designed to showcase different aspects of mountain biking and explore various terrains around Noyako Onsen Village and beyond.
Hill Climb
On Saturday morning at 10 am, participants will start their ascent from the base station near Chosaka Gondola, climbing an impressive elevation gain of 800 meters over a distance of approximately 13 kilometers. The route begins with gentle forest trails that are accessible to beginners before transitioning into more challenging sections on the ski resort's slopes, where gradients can reach up to 18%. This course offers stunning views and diverse landscapes as you climb higher.
Adventure Downhill
The Adventure Downhill event takes place over two days: a qualifying round on Saturday at 2 pm followed by the final race on Sunday at 1 pm. Cyclists will navigate through existing downhill trails within Noyako Ski Resort, combined with specially designed adventure sections that avoid narrow uphill areas known for causing traffic jams in previous years. This unique layout requires not only speed but also technical skill and strategic thinking to conquer both unpaved stretches and steep descents.
Gravel & Adventure Touring
On Sunday at 9 am, the Gravel & Adventure Touring event begins with a scenic route that connects Noyako Ski Resort through rural areas of Noyako Onsen Village, Iizuna City, and Koshimata Town. This ride offers an adventurous journey over unmarked forest roads, terraced fields, and dense forests rarely accessible to the public. Participants can enjoy picturesque views while riding on gravel or mountain bikes.
Throughout these events, cyclists will encounter multiple aid stations along the routes where they can rest, refuel with local delicacies like fresh fruits and traditional sweets from North Shinshu region, and collect unique souvenirs such as gondola ride vouchers valid during the green season of 2026. The event also includes a vibrant night market from October 2nd to 4th for participants to enjoy after their rides.
The Noyako Onsen Cycling Festival promises an exhilarating blend of physical challenge, scenic beauty, and community spirit. Whether you're a seasoned rider or just starting out, there's something here for everyone who loves cycling in the mountains.
