Welcome to one of Leeds' most scenic running events along the tranquil Leeds–Liverpool Canal towpath. This flat, out-and-back route starts from Granary Wharf, right behind Leeds Station, offering an ideal challenge for runners of all levels — whether you're a beginner looking for a relaxing experience or an experienced runner aiming for personal bests. The race course provides a serene and traffic-free environment with stunning canal-side views throughout. Regular aid stations are strategically placed along the route to ensure that participants receive ample support during their run, including water and snacks every three miles. The event is fully marshalled, enhancing safety and providing clear guidance as you navigate through Kirkstall and beyond. Registration takes place at Granary Wharf (///taxi.vibe.young), where race bibs will be collected on the day. Participants are encouraged to arrive early — registration opens at 7:15am with a recommended one-hour buffer before your start time for parking, registering, and using restroom facilities. The event offers three distances: - Half Marathon starting at 8:30 am - 10K beginning at 9:00 am - A shorter 5km race kicking off at 8:45 am All races are Trail Running Association licensed under UKA rules and follow the picturesque canal towpath. To promote environmental sustainability, participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable bottles or cups for feed stations. For safety reasons, large over-ear headphones are not allowed during the event; however, bone conduction headphones or single ear use is permitted. Please be aware that there may be unmarshalled road crossings on the route and ensure you inform nearby marshals if assistance is needed at any point along the way. Post-race celebrations include a bespoke finisher medal and plenty of treats to help runners recover. For more detailed information, including parking options, transfers, deferrals, and safety guidelines, visit our FAQ section or join the "Grim Up North Chat" Facebook group for updates and support from fellow participants. For those traveling by car, please note that there is no parking available at the start/finish area. However, several city centre car parks are within walking distance, and we strongly recommend car-sharing to reduce traffic congestion. We look forward to seeing you on race day as you immerse yourself in this beautiful setting and experience a truly memorable running event.
