THE CHALLENGE RACE YOKOHAMA 13 is a JAAF-certified race along the right bank of the Tsurumi River in Yokohama, a ten-minute walk from Shin-Yokohama Station. Events are the full marathon, 30 km, half marathon, 10K, 5K and 1 mile on a 10 km loop with an elevation difference of no more than 3 m. Pacers cover 12 paces from 2:30 to 4:20 for the full marathon, with a minimum running distance of 25 km. Each lap has three aid stations, at 2 km, 4.7 km and 8.4 km, all with drinks (Amino Vital GOLD) and one with gel (Amino Shot Perfect Energy). Runners line up five minutes before the start and can warm up until then. Changing rooms and toilets are available, though there is no baggage storage and pay parking is limited to nearby coin lots. Registration runs 8:00 to 9:00 with an opening ceremony at 9:10 and a 9:30 start (9:35 for the 1 mile). Fees are 11,000 yen for the full marathon, 7,700 yen for the 30 km and half marathon, 5,500 yen for the 10K and 3,300 yen for the 5K and 1 mile. Time limits are 4:30 for the full, 3:12 for the 30 km, 2:15 for the half, 90 minutes for the 10K and 40 minutes for the 5K. The race is part of the R.LEAGUE series, whose registered runners get 10 percent off repeat entries, and results are issued online about two hours after the finish.
