The White Tank Throwdown is an authentic trail running experience nestled within the rugged terrain of White Tank Mountain Regional Park. This grassroots event offers runners a blend of technical climbs and fast-flowing singletrack, set against the backdrop of classic Sonoran Desert vistas. Embracing a dirt-bag ethos with no sponsors or swag bags, it’s a community-driven race where every participant is valued equally—whether you’re chasing personal records, finishing last, or volunteering at an aid station. The 30K course begins on the Ironwood and Waddell perimeter trails before diving into the Ford Canyon Trail for its signature ruggedness. You’ll encounter sandy washes and light scrambling over rocky sections as you loop through Mesquite and Willow Canyons, offering a mix of punchy climbs and smoother descents. The 10K route is more accessible but still spirited, featuring an out-and-back on the flatter edges of Ironwood and Ford Canyon Trails—ideal for newcomers testing their trail legs or veterans honing speed. Both courses are self-supported in terms of hydration; runners must bring their own bottles as no disposables will be provided. Drop bags are permitted at the start/finish line, which also serves as a gathering spot to share stories around coolers after the race. The event’s tight-knit community ensures that the best moments happen on and off the trail. With sweeping desert panoramas and wildflower-lined canyons (in season), this race offers more than just miles; it provides an immersive experience in one of Arizona's most scenic parks. Join us for a day of challenging terrain, stunning views, and genuine camaraderie among runners who share a passion for the trail. About Waddell
Learn more about the host city, Waddell.
Waddell is an unincorporated community in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, northwest of Phoenix. Waddell is named after Donald Ware Waddell, a native of Ohio, who was a partner in the New York City investment firm Brandon, Gordon, and Waddell. This firm organized private financing for construction of the dam for the water reclamation project that created Lake Pleasant. The town site was laid out by Donald Waddell in 1935, on property he owned on the northeast corner of Waddell Road and Cotton Lane. Waddell moved to the area to oversee the firm's interest in the project. He served on the board of the Maricopa Water District and invested in land through his Arizona Citrus Land Company and the Waddell Ranch Company.
