White Pine Solstice Runs

No gimmicky swag bags. No thumping music. No flashy finish line arches. Just the Oquirrh Mountains. The 8th annual White Pine Solstice Runs return to Tooele, Utah, on Saturday, June 20, 2026, starting at Middle Canyon Rd. Choose 55k (34 miles, 12,500 ft vert), half marathon (13.9 miles, 3,700 ft vert), or 8.5‑miler (2,500 ft vert). 8 miles above 9,000 ft, 2 miles above 10,000 ft. Lightning, rain, hail, even snow possible. Low‑key vibe, stiff competition, and a course that will change you.

The Philosophy — Race Simply:

• "We create our events, especially our courses, to give you a beautiful, challenging, fun experience. The course is where it's at."
• No gimmicky race entry bags full of clutter you'll never use
• No finisher's awards that will end up in a drawer somewhere
• No thumping music, no PA announcer, no flashy finish line arches
• Aid stations are minimalist but functional — they will help you get to the finish line
• Low‑key vibe, but stiff competition
• Top three men and women in each distance receive a modest award

Location — Oquirrh Mountains, Tooele, Utah:

• White Pine and Settlement Canyons, divided by Kelsey Peak (10,373'), White Pine Peak (10,321'), and Tooele Peak (9,601')
• Butterfield Peaks (9,370') and Kennecott Mine Overlook (9,015') to the east and north
• Courses take you up steep canyon roads, beautiful single‑track through aspen groves and pine stands, rugged ridgelines
• Views of Tooele, Salt Lake, and Utah Counties, plus the Wasatch and Stansbury Mountain Ranges
• 8 miles of the 55k are above 9,000 ft; 2 miles above 10,000 ft

55k Course — True Mountain Race:

• Start → White Pine single‑track → Butterfield Pass → Kennecott Mine Overlook → Butterfield Pass → Butterfield Peaks East (9,370') → White Pine Peak (10,323') → Peak 9,712' → Tooele Peak (9,601') → Left Hand Fork of Settlement Canyon ("Bench Trail") → Settlement Canyon Reservoir (aid station) → Settlement Canyon → Ridge Trail → Bear Trap Pass → Tooele Peak again → Peak 9,712' again → White Pine Peak again → Kelsey Peak (10,373') → White Pine Canyon → finish
• Three major climbs: 2,150 ft, 1,600 ft, and 1,550 ft. Plus a 4,900 ft climb from Settlement Canyon to the finish.
• Aid stations: #1/2 Butterfield Pass (miles 3 & 8.2), #3 Settlement Canyon (mile 21.5)
• From aid station 2 to aid station 3: 13.3 miles between stops — bag Butterfield, White Pine, Peak 9,712', and Tooele Peaks
• From aid station 3 to finish: 12.5 miles — re‑bag Tooele, Peak 9,712', White Pine, and add Kelsey Peak

Half Marathon Course:

• Out‑and‑back to Oquirrh Mine Overlook, summit of Butterfield Peak East, then back down White Pine Canyon
• Aid station at Butterfield Pass (miles 3 & 8.2)

8.5 Mile Course:

• Up to Butterfield Pass, summit of Butterfield Peak East, then down White Pine Canyon to finish

What's Included (Minimalist, but Everything You Need):

• Chip timing (USATF sanctioned)
• Low‑key aid stations (water, electrolyte, basic ultra snacks)
• Medical support on course
• Bag drop at start/finish
• Modest award for top 3 men/women in each distance
• Stunning mountain views and a life‑changing experience — not clutter

Important Warning — 55k is Not for First‑Time Ultra Runners:

• "Please do not sign up for this distance if this is your first ultra and/or you don't think you can handle 12.5k vert, and rough, rugged ridgelines."
• Lightning is a potential hazard; rain, hail, even snow can fall at these elevations in June
• We HIGHLY recommend you carry adequate hydration capacity, food, and gear for inclement weather
• That being said: "hard & difficult makes for life changing, memorable experiences. Just be judicious and wise in your decision."
