On November 7, 2026, the Altena Road Runners will host the 26th edition of the Vestingstadrun in Sleeuwijk. This year's race offers three distinct distances: a challenging half marathon (21.1 km), a scenic 10.5-kilometer run, and a family-friendly 5.2-kilometer course. The event kicks off at Atletiekpark Altena with the youth races starting at noon for children up to age 15 across four categories. The main events begin simultaneously at 2:00 PM when runners of all ages line up for their respective courses, sharing a combined ranking system until 4:30 PM. The half marathon route winds through the picturesque countryside around Altena and includes parts of the historic fortified town of Woudrichem, providing participants with an unforgettable blend of natural beauty and historical charm. The race is entirely on paved roads that are closed to traffic for safety and enjoyment, ensuring a smooth run from start to finish. Registration is exclusively online at www.inschrijven.nl until November 6th at midnight or when the event reaches its capacity limit of 500 participants. Entry fees vary depending on the distance chosen: €21.50 for the half marathon, €15.00 for the 10.5-kilometer run, and €10.00 for the shorter course. Participants can collect their race numbers at the Altena Road Runners clubhouse located in Sleeuwijk starting from noon on November 7th. The event venue offers changing facilities and ample parking space near Altena College to accommodate runners and spectators alike. Awards will be presented on-site immediately following each race, with special recognition for top finishers across all categories as well as the fastest male and female participants in both the 10.5-kilometer and 5.2-kilometer races. Additionally, there is a prize for breaking any existing course records set by Carsten Kok (men's record: 1 hour, 6 minutes, 32 seconds) or Eveline Sterrenburg (women’s record: 1 hour, 20 minutes, 16 seconds).
