UFOREA invites trail runners to experience an unforgettable 50K journey through the enchanting Uwharrie and Dutchman's Creek Trail systems on April 17, 2027. Participants will embark on a massive clockwise loop of 20.5 miles followed by an 11.4-mile lower loop for a total distance of approximately 32 miles. The race begins at 8:00 AM and has an 11-hour cutoff time, finishing around 7 PM.
The Uwharrie National Forest offers stunning scenery with rolling hills, dense forests, and tranquil creeks providing both challenges and moments of serene beauty along the route. Runners will navigate varied terrain that includes rugged trails, steep climbs, and technical sections demanding strength and endurance.
For those seeking an ultimate challenge, there's also a nighttime counterpart starting at 8:00 PM on April 17, with a counter-clockwise tour through the same trail systems under moonlit skies. This event features identical distances but presents unique challenges due to low light conditions and cooler temperatures. The night race has a 12-hour cutoff time, concluding around 8 AM the following morning.
Participants can opt for an ultimate experience by completing both races back-to-back for a combined distance of 64 miles within a day, known as ULTIMATE UFOREA 100K. This grueling test requires exceptional stamina and mental fortitude, with overall awards given to top male and female finishers based on the lowest total time across both events.
Registration is limited, ensuring an intimate race atmosphere while runners immerse themselves in nature's splendor and push their limits through this unique trail challenge.
