The Tuscobia Winter Ultra, an epic endurance challenge set against the stark beauty of Northern Wisconsin's Tuscobia State Trail, invites runners, cyclists, and skiers to test their limits during winter’s grip. This race offers two formidable distances: a grueling 160-mile route and its more moderate sibling at 80 miles. The 160-mile course is not just an arduous journey through snow-covered terrain; it also serves as the qualifying event for the prestigious Iditarod Trail Invitation (ITI). Winners of this race will earn a valuable prize: a paid entry into another major winter ultra, worth over $1,400. Applicants must meet strict qualifications to enter the 160-mile distance. They should have completed one of several challenging events such as the Tuscobia Ultra itself or its shorter variants, Arrowhead’s daunting 135 miles, the Iditarod Trail Invitational series, Actif Epica's long-distance races in Finland, The Drift and Fat Pursuit challenges, or any number of other renowned winter ultramarathons. The application period for this year opened on August 7th and closed on August 21st. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of the month, likely around August 29th. Entry fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred: $150 for the 80-mile race and $200 for the full 160 miles. Participants selected to compete in this frosty frontier must prepare themselves both mentally and physically for a test of endurance that will push them through some of North America's most pristine winter landscapes. The Tuscobia Winter Ultra is more than just a race; it’s an experience where participants immerse themselves in the raw beauty and challenges of Wisconsin's frozen wilderness. The event organizers cover all platform fees and taxes, ensuring runners focus solely on their preparation without additional financial burdens.
