Event Overview
The Thunder Chicken 100K Stage Races kick off on April 30, 2027, with each day presenting its own set of challenges and rewards. Spanning across three days, participants will cover a total distance of approximately 72 miles (including the final stage at around 25 kilometers), navigating through some of Missouri's most captivating trail systems.
Terrain & Scenery
Each stage is designed to showcase different aspects of the park’s natural beauty:
- Stage 1: Tour de Rockwoods Range
On April 30, runners will start with a challenging out-and-back route that takes them across Fossil Ridge and Deer Run Trails before venturing into Rockwoods Range. Expect steep climbs, rocky terrain, and numerous creek crossings as you traverse over 2,650 feet of elevation gain.
- Stage 2: Tour de Rockwoods Reservation
May 1 brings a rugged out-and-back challenge that covers the Beulah Trail and connects to Green Rock, Rock Quarry Trails, and more. This stage is known for its steep climbs and technical singletrack, with over 4,150 feet of elevation gain.
- Stage 3: Tour de Greensfelder
The final day on May 2 offers a mix of fast-flowing trails and punchy sections in the scenic Deer Run Trail. The route includes a thrilling climb to Scenic Overlook before descending back towards Beulah Shelter, with an additional elevation gain of about 1,850 feet.
Community & Support
Thunder Chicken is more than just a race; it's a celebration of community and inclusivity. Terrain Trail Runners-STL has partnered with the Trail Mix Fund to waive registration fees for runners who might not otherwise be able to participate due to financial constraints or barriers related to under-representation in trail running.
Amenities & Services
- Camping: Greensfelder County State Park offers tent camping, RV hook-ups, and showers.
- Swag & Awards: All participants receive custom T-shirts upon registration (deadline for guaranteed swag is April 3, 2027). Post-race celebrations include snacks, beer salutes, taco bars with both veggie and non-veggie options on the final day. Finishers will be awarded a belt buckle, while stage winners earn medals.
