The Wolf Within winter Backyard Ultra

Experience winter endurance racing at its finest with The Wolf Within Winter Backyard Ultra, set for February 6th, 2027, starting at 10:00 am CDT. This unique race challenges participants to complete a grueling yet scenic 4.167-mile loop every hour until only one runner remains standing. Nestled in the heart of central Minnesota, runners will traverse well-maintained ski trails winding through remote and peaceful woods, offering breathtaking winter vistas at every turn.
The course features mostly flat terrain with gentle rolling hills and around 100 feet of elevation gain per loop, providing a challenging yet manageable test for endurance athletes. With trails averaging ten feet wide, competitors have ample space to find their rhythm while enjoying the serene beauty of the Minnesota countryside. The race begins in an open field at the edge of the woods, where crews, supporters, and spectators can gather comfortably.
Starting precisely on the hour with a bell signal and followed by a whistle countdown (3 whistles for 3 minutes before start), runners must complete their loop within that hour to remain eligible for subsequent rounds. The race continues until only one runner remains standing, who then completes an additional solo lap to secure victory.
Beyond the physical challenge, this event fosters camaraderie and personal growth among participants as they push through fatigue and cold temperatures. It's more than a competition; it’s about discovering your limits and surpassing them in pursuit of becoming The Last Wolf Standing.
Join us for an unforgettable experience that combines winter endurance racing with the unique format of a Backyard Ultra, where each hour brings new choices and opportunities to prove what you're truly made of.
