The Magnificent Bastards Challenge

The Magnificent Bastards Challenge returns to Corinth, Vermont on July 25th, honoring fallen members of the 2nd Battalion 4th Marines with a unique race format that combines endurance, honor, and community spirit. The event features two distinct categories: Last Man Standing for runners and Last Rucker Standing for ruckers carrying weighted packs.
On race morning in Corinth's rural outskirts near VT-25, participants will gather to start the challenging course at 7am sharp. Temperatures are expected to hover around 16.2C with a maximum of 26.4C by late afternoon; humidity levels average about 78%, and there is little chance of significant rainfall or strong winds during race hours.
The Magnificent Bastards Challenge has been an annual event for several years, bringing together runners from across Vermont to honor those who have served their country with distinction. The Last Man Standing category sees participants complete one-mile loops until only a single runner remains; each mile includes 300 feet of climbing and must be completed within twenty minutes or less. For the Honor Lap segment, registrants contribute funds directly to Northeast Slopes while completing just one loop at their own pace.
The course for both categories winds through hard-packed trails that offer dry footing despite Vermont's typically humid conditions in July. Start and finish lines are located at 10397 VT-25 in East Corinth; the terrain features gradual elevation gains every mile, with no aid stations along the route but clear markings guiding runners.
Runners can expect a comfortable yet warm morning as temperatures rise from around 16C to reach their peak of approximately 26.4C by mid-afternoon on race day. Participants should prepare for higher humidity levels and the possibility of scattered clouds, though no significant rainfall is forecasted according to local weather data.

The Magnificent Bastards Challenge offers three distinct categories: Last Man Standing (Last Runner Standing) at $110 per entry, a unique endurance event; Honor Lap also costs $20 for those choosing not to compete in the full challenge but still wish to contribute and run one mile in honor of fallen marines. Lastly, there is an option called Last Rucker Standing which requires participants to carry weighted packs with males carrying 35 pounds and females 25 pounds.
