On this summer morning in Lebanon, the air carries hints of barbecues and fireworks as runners lace up their shoes and gather near City Hall. The sun rises over a town that feels both familiar and festive, with local vendors selling coffee and pastries to fuel early risers before they set off on their run along well-trodden paths through serene landscapes. As the race kicks off at 9:00 AM sharp in front of City Hall, participants will be greeted by spirited volunteers and fellow runners ready for a day filled with community spirit.
Since its inception, this event has become an annual highlight for both locals and visitors looking to mark Independence Day in style. Over the years, it has attracted hundreds of enthusiastic runners who come together not just for competition but also to support local causes. This year’s race will once again raise funds for a scholarship program aimed at helping young students pursue higher education within their community. The event is deeply rooted in fostering unity and pride through athletic camaraderie.
The course itself takes participants on an invigorating journey along the Rail Trail and Mill Road Trail, both featuring varied terrain with stretches of hardpack paths and dirt trails that offer a mix for runners to enjoy. Starting near City Hall, racers will navigate around landmarks such as the iconic Lebanon Public Library and picturesque local parks before heading out into more rural settings alongside the Mascoma River. Notable features include aid stations offering water and snacks, strategically placed throughout the route at approximately every two kilometers.
On race day, participants can expect mild weather conditions ideal for running outdoors. The air will feel around 23 degrees Celsius with a gentle breeze blowing from the east.
