THE KINGDOM OF NORTHUMBRIA COASTAL ULTRA 2027

The Kingdom of Northumbria Coastal Ultra, scheduled for 2027, invites trail runners to explore the breathtaking coastline of Northumberland. Early bird entries have filled up quickly, but stage two pricing is still available for those looking to secure their spot among the next hundred participants.
Starting near Bamburgh Castle and winding through picturesque coastal villages like Beadnell Harbour and Craster Village, this ultra event offers a blend of history and natural beauty. Runners will encounter iconic landmarks such as Dunstanburgh Castle and Warkworth Castle along the way before reaching the finish line at Druridge Bay Country Park.
The 54km Ultra route begins in Bamburgh’s car park on Links Road, while the shorter yet equally scenic 27km Trail Run starts from the charming Boulmer Lifeboat Station. Both routes are meticulously mapped and available for free download to help runners plan their journey through this stunning landscape.
Participants will enjoy well-stocked feed stations at key points along both courses: Low Newton, Boulmer, Warkworth Beach (for 54km), and a final one at Warkworth Beach specifically for the shorter trail run. These stops provide essential hydration and energy boosts throughout the challenging terrain.
Runners are required to carry specific mandatory kit including water or fluids, food supplies like gels, an emergency contact phone number, and a headtorch if finishing after 4:30 pm due to limited daylight hours.
The event offers two start times for the ultra distance based on expected finish time—8:00 am for those aiming beyond six-and-a-half hours and 10:00 am for faster runners—and both routes begin at 10:00 am.
With a strict cut-off of 6 pm, ensuring safety in low light conditions, participants must reach the final feed station by 4:30 pm to continue. Live chip timing is provided by Timing Up North to accurately track each runner’s progress throughout the race.
Upon crossing the finish line at Druridge Bay Country Park, all runners will be rewarded with a metal event medal and an exclusive t-shirt in addition to snacks and drinks to celebrate their achievement. Car parking fees apply for both competitors and spectators within the country park area.
