The Drop - Manchester

About the Event

The Drop is an exhilarating and unpredictable navigation challenge that pushes participants into uncharted territory both literally and metaphorically. Unlike conventional races, The Drop offers no clear path or guidance; instead, it plunges you into the unknown with nothing but your instincts to guide you back home.
Participants are bused to a secret location far from the event center — either 10 miles for the shorter challenge or 15 miles for those seeking an extended ordeal. Once there, they must rely solely on their wits and physical prowess to navigate through unfamiliar terrain without any maps, GPS devices, or other navigational aids.
The core Drop challenges come in two distances: The 15-Mile version is designed for seasoned adventurers who thrive under pressure and are ready for a more grueling test. Meanwhile, the 10-Mile challenge offers an intense yet compact experience that still packs plenty of uncertainty and decision-making into its shorter format.
For those traveling from afar or unfamiliar with local geography, The Drop 6 presents a unique opportunity to engage in this thrilling adventure without the advantage of intimate knowledge about the area. This variant is strictly reserved for non-locals who wish to level the playing field by eliminating any home-field advantages that locals might possess due to familiarity.
Upon registration, participants hand over all electronic devices and navigational tools before receiving their race numbers along with a sealed emergency kit they must carry throughout the event. The journey begins when you board the bus wearing blackout blindfolds (or approved alternatives) and are transported to your drop-off point in complete darkness. Once there, the real challenge unfolds as soon as the blindfold comes off.
The rules of engagement are strict: no GPS devices allowed unless sealed inside the emergency bag; no unauthorized maps or route guidance whatsoever; all movement must be on foot with no shortcuts permitted. Should you break any rule, disqualification is immediate and final.
Safety remains paramount throughout The Drop experience, which includes a live GPS tracking system to monitor participants' progress while ensuring their well-being during this adventurous journey back home. This technology also allows friends and family members outside the event site to follow your mission in real-time via secure login details provided beforehand.
The essence of The Drop lies not just in covering distance but in embracing uncertainty, making critical decisions under pressure, and ultimately finding a way through unfamiliar territory with nothing more than what you bring within yourself. Are you prepared for this unique blend of physical endurance and mental fortitude? Can you navigate your way back when all guidance is stripped away?
Join The Drop to discover if you have the resolve it takes to find your path home in an environment where every step is a leap into the unknown.

Scenic view of

Barton Arcade is a Grade II* listed Victorian arcade situated between Deansgate and St Ann's Square in Manchester, England. Built in 1871 for John Hope Barton and designed by Corbett, Raby and Sawyer, it stood at the forefront of redevelopment following the widening of Deansgate. The building sustained bomb damage in 1940 and was sold privately in 1957 before being restored in the late 20th century. Its listing covers both the arcades and the surrounding block of shops and offices.
