The Dark Downs

Immerse yourself in the enchanting South Downs for the Dark Downs 50K and Half Marathon on September 25, 2027. As dusk descends, runners embark on two looped courses that wind through rolling hills and runnable trails under a blanket of darkness. The untechnical terrain offers an ideal setting for night running, enhanced by the South Downs' Dark Sky Reserve status, providing breathtaking views of stars overhead.
Starting at 6:15 PM and 6:30 PM respectively, runners have six and twelve hours to navigate this unique challenge. Aid stations are well-stocked with enthusiastic volunteers ready to assist along a fully marked course featuring high-visibility signage and marshals stationed regularly for safety. This event serves as excellent preparation for night races or winter ultras.
For an added incentive, the 50K race is part of the new "South Downs Triple Crown," allowing participants to compete in three out of four designated 50K events throughout the year. Experience the camaraderie and adventure that awaits on this unforgettable evening.
