The Cherokee Ultra, now entering its fourth year, invites trail runners to challenge themselves on the rugged terrain of Tennessee's Cherokee National Forest. This premier mountain ultra offers three distances: 70K and 130K for seasoned ultrarunners, plus a new addition in 2026—the Waucheesi Vert Challenge (24 miles). The course weaves through historic paths like the Unicoi Turnpike, which was part of the Trail of Tears route. Runners will face steep climbs and wild river crossings as they tackle over 19,000 feet of elevation gain on the full 130K distance. Aid stations are themed with lively music by day and lantern-lit oases by night, offering warmth and encouragement to weary runners. The race starts and finishes in Tellico Plains, where a finisher celebration awaits at Tellico High School, complete with local desserts and baked goods as sweet rewards for the mountain miles. The event is more than just racing; it's an immersive journey through history, community spirit, and sheer determination. Registration opens on October 1st, so mark your calendars to claim your spot in this unforgettable adventure before spots fill up.
