About the Event

The General Cedar Blitz race invites participants to test their endurance against the elements across Michigan's diverse landscapes. The course caters to various age groups, ensuring fair competition regardless of experience level. Whether you're racing on a sunny day or braving unexpected weather conditions like rain and snow, this event promises an adrenaline-fueled challenge.
Safety is paramount at General Cedar Blitz. In severe weather such as thunderstorms, lightning strikes, heavy snowfall, or hail, the race might be postponed to ensure participant safety. It's crucial for all racers to seek shelter immediately if dangerous conditions arise before, during, or after the event. Unfortunately, cancellations due to inclement weather do not offer rescheduling options.
The open course nature of General Cedar Blitz means that participants must adhere strictly to Michigan Vehicle Code and cycling road rules while navigating vehicular traffic. Cyclists are required to stop at all stop signs, yield right-of-way vehicles, avoid crossing center lines, and ride no more than two abreast. Violations can lead to disqualification.
For safety reasons, each race category requires a minimum of 10 participants; otherwise, categories may be combined by the discretion of race directors. Mandatory gear includes ANSI/Snell approved bicycle helmets without earbuds for clear communication on the course and bicycles in good working condition. Racers must also carry GPS computers with downloaded courses to track their progress accurately.
The timing limits vary based on distance: 18-mile racers have a four-hour limit, while 36- and 50-milers face similar constraints as determined by race marshals and directors. The most challenging route is the grueling 128 miles, which demands an average pace of 13 mph with a cut-off time at 4 pm on July 11th. This unsupported course lacks marshals or markings; racers must navigate independently.
For those tackling the 128-mile distance, carrying lights to ensure visibility during potential low-light conditions is mandatory. Aid stations are available along key points of the route for support and hydration needs. At the 80-mile mark station, participants can drop off personal belongings, which they will collect after the awards ceremony without further aid provisions along the course.
The General Cedar Blitz offers a unique blend of challenging courses and natural beauty, making it an event not to be missed by serious cyclists seeking both competition and adventure in Michigan's picturesque terrain.
