The Course
The Centennial Trail is a classic Canadian Shield adventure, featuring a mix of single track, runnable flow trails, exposed granite ridges, wet boreal forest, technical rooty sections, punchy climbs, and even short scrambles. Less than 1 km of the course is road — everything else is trail magic.
For 100KM participants, you’ll run across the iconic Red Bridge at Hanson’s Creek and experience a brand-new connector trail east of Falcon Lake — a stunning addition to make the suffering a little sweeter.
The first half of the 100KM course is particularly technical and remote, with aid stations spaced roughly 16 km apart. This isn’t a race to tackle underprepared — a 50KM ultra beforehand is highly recommended.
A Trail Steeped in History
The Centennial Trail was originally conceived by Vern “Skink” Dutton in the 1970s and enhanced by Scouts and Girl Guides to commemorate Manitoba’s 100th anniversary. Today, the route is part of the Trans Canada Trail, running from McGillivray Falls to Alfred Hole Goose Sanctuary in Rennie. Thanks to dedicated stewards, including the Manitoba Association of Trail Runners, South Whiteshell Trails Association, and Falcon Trails, the trails remain well-maintained and ready for adventure.

About West Hawk Lake
West Hawk Lake is an impact crater lake on the Whiteshell River located in the Whiteshell Provincial Park in southeastern Manitoba, Canada. The circular shape of the main body of the lake is due to the submerged West Hawk crater, caused by a meteor impact into an ancient rock bed composed of mostly granite. At 115 metres (377 ft), it is the deepest lake in Manitoba.
