About the Event

Get ready for an eerie and exciting run as the Tempe Family YMCA presents its 8th annual Spooky Sprint 5K on Saturday, October 31, 2026. This Halloween-themed race invites runners to lace up their sneakers and join a festive atmosphere that combines fitness with frightful fun.
The event kicks off at 8:30 am sharp near the Tempe Family YMCA located at 7070 S Rural Rd in Tempe, AZ. Participants can pick up their packets early on Thursday or Friday from 3 to 8 pm at The Welcome Center of the Y. On race day itself, packet pickup is available from 7:00 am until 8:15 am.
The course offers a flat and scenic route along the canal bike path just north of the Tempe Family YMCA. Runners will enjoy well-marked paths with volunteers guiding them through two down-and-back loops that wind their way around Ken Macdonald’s Club House bridge, where you'll find one water station available for hydration.
Registration fees are $25 for adults and $10 for children under 18; a family of four can register together for just $40. Early registration ensures runners receive an event T-shirt while supplies last – those who sign up by October 2nd will secure their shirts in advance. Late registrants may still join but must arrive early to pick up packets before the race begins.
Post-race refreshments such as bagels, fruit, and other treats are provided for all participants to enjoy after crossing the finish line. Stick around afterwards to celebrate with fellow runners and cheer on award winners who will be recognized in various categories including overall male and female top finishers, age groups (5-17, 18-35, 36-64, 65+), best costume, and group costumes.
This year's Phantom Sponsor is SRP Kyrene Generating Station. All proceeds from the Spooky Sprint support sending kids to camp through donations made at race day or online via valleyymca.org/our-mission/donate/.
