| Participant Limit | Strictly limited to 50 runners |
The route leads runners across forest tracks and ancient trods, offering expansive views of the Vale of York and the North Yorkshire Moors. Due to the technical nature of the ascents and the unpredictable nature of spring weather in the uplands, the organizer mandates a strict compulsory kit list. This includes waterproof jackets with taped seams, emergency bivvy bags, hats, gloves, a working compass, and either the OS OL26 or Harvey’s map of the North Yorkshire Moors. Participants are also expected to have digital navigation tools such as OS Locate or What3words loaded on a fully charged mobile device.
Logistically, the event is managed by Adrian Martin of SilverBackTrails, with entries processed through the SiEntries system. Each finisher receives a bespoke commissioned medal and a certificate. The race is inclusive of canine partners, provided they are kept on a short lead or harness due to local livestock; dog-assisted runners start five minutes after the main field to ensure safety on technical sections. A single checkpoint on the course provides water, snacks, and "Haribo-type" sweets, with options suitable for both vegan and vegetarian participants. A small parking fee is collected on-site to be donated to the National Park authorities.
Registration for the event remains open until the day before the race, though the small entry cap often leads to early sell-outs. While some flags and marshals are positioned to assist with navigation, runners are expected to be self-sufficient and capable of following the gpx file provided prior to the start. The spring timing of the race typically coincides with the blooming of wild Rhododendrons and tree blossoms, providing a scenic backdrop to an otherwise punishing physical test through the Yorkshire wilderness.
