Shasta Sands of Time

Embark on an epic adventure through the rugged terrain of Mt. Shasta, where you'll tackle one of the most challenging DIY running routes in California. Spanning across July and August 2027, this self-guided race offers runners complete flexibility to choose their start time while ensuring a continuous effort throughout the course. The route features two ascents up Mount Shasta via four distinct climbing paths: Avalanche Gulch, Clear Creek, Hotlum-Wintun, and Hotlum-Bolam, creating a figure-eight loop that allows for versatile starting points.
This strenuous journey demands both physical prowess and mental fortitude as you navigate the steep climbs and breathtaking vistas. A solid background in mountaineering is strongly advised due to the technical nature of the terrain. For added safety, participants are encouraged to carry a Garmin InReach or similar personal locator beacon while exploring this remote wilderness.
Connect with fellow runners through dedicated social media groups on Facebook and Strava for tips, encouragement, and shared experiences. Upon completion within one week after the event period ends, submit your results along with an activity link from GPS tracking devices like Garmin Connect to earn a finisher award and secure your ranking in the final standings.
