The Sekhon Indian Air Force Half Marathon honors Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC, the only recipient of the Param Vir Chakra from the Indian Air Force. During the 1971 War, Flying Officer Sekhon defended Srinagar's airfield against six Pakistani Sabre jets in his Folland Gnat with extraordinary bravery and selflessness.
