Rye Ancient Trails 30k & 15k

Nestled within the rolling hills of East Sussex, the Rye Steeplechase offers runners an unforgettable adventure through one of England's most enchanting landscapes. This annual event takes place on Sunday, September 13th, at 09:30 AM and invites participants to explore ancient trails that wind around the medieval town of Rye.
The race courses, both a challenging 30 kilometers (slightly over) and a more manageable 15 kilometers, traverse through the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Runners will encounter historic sites such as Norman churches in villages like Iden, Beckley, Northiam, and Peasmarsh, each offering unique glimpses into England's rich history.
The journey begins on Rye’s bustling high street to the rhythmic calls of the Town Crier before venturing onto trails that lead through serene woodlands, orchards, and tranquil country lanes. The route is marked by dramatic climbs totaling 1500 feet, providing breathtaking views of the coastline along the way.
This event not only celebrates the natural beauty and historical significance of East Sussex but also supports local communities. Participants can look forward to warm encouragement from volunteers stationed at various points throughout the course, as well as a delightful finish line where Girl Guides serve tea, coffee, and cake. The race is proudly partnered with The Oliver Curd Trust, which provides free holiday accommodation for families impacted by childhood cancer.
Upon completion of either distance, runners will receive a bespoke medal commemorating their achievement. Additionally, there are trophies and prizes awarded to the top finishers in each category. Free photographs capture memorable moments from throughout the event, ensuring that participants can relive their experience long after crossing the line.
Registration fees for race day entry are £40 for the 30k distance and £35 for the 15k option (subject to availability). Detailed route maps, including GPX files, will be made available prior to the event date to help runners prepare effectively.
