RUNWAY 5K RUN

Experience an exhilarating run like no other on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Laredo International Airport for the inaugural Runway Run 5K and 1K. This unique race offers runners the rare opportunity to traverse active commercial airfield runways, providing a thrilling backdrop of aircraft taking off and landing around you.
The event takes place in the heart of Texas, where participants will not only enjoy breathtaking views but also interact with airport equipment such as fire apparatus, various types of airline ground support vehicles, and even some static aircraft displays. Runners can capture memorable moments along the course while marveling at the dynamic aviation environment.
Located near Laredo's historic Old Airport Terminal in Signature Flight Support Building (4805 Maher Ave.), the venue offers a distinctive setting for this special event. Early registration rates are available until August 31st, with discounts for city employees and first responders who present approved identification.
Participants will receive chip timing to ensure accurate results, and the top finishers across various age groups and categories will be recognized at an awards ceremony following the race. Additionally, early registrants can look forward to receiving a commemorative shirt, medal, and bib as part of their swag package.
The day's activities kick off with pre-registration and packet pickup from 6:00 am onwards, followed by a fitness warm-up session at 7:05 am. Runners will line up for the start at 7:30 am, with official announcements beginning shortly after to set the stage for an unforgettable morning.
As you make your way through this unique course, remember that strollers, skateboards, rollerblades, bikes or pets are not permitted on the runway due to safety regulations. Spectators will be directed to a designated area where they can cheer runners on and enjoy snacks and drinks inside Signature Flight Support Building post-race.
For those interested in participating but unable to attend packet pickup beforehand, it is also available at the venue on race day from 6:00 am to 7:30 am. Free parking will be provided at El Metro Park and Ride near Hillside Road and Thomas Avenue; just follow the signs for easy access.
