The Renascença Fátima Half Marathon returns for its second edition on Sunday, March 29, 2026. While some official materials still use the "first edition" branding from its 2025 debut, this event has quickly established itself as a premier destination for runners seeking a "journey between culture and contemplation." The race offers a fast, officially sanctioned course that winds through the historic center and the main avenues of Fátima, providing a unique spiritual and athletic atmosphere in one of the world's most significant pilgrimage sites.

The "Blessing of the Shoes" Tradition

A highlight of this event is the Blessing of the Shoes Ceremony (Bênção das Sapatilhas), which takes place the day before the race, Saturday, March 28, at 4:00 PM. Participants gather at the Chapel of the Apparitions within the Sanctuary of Fátima for a greeting to Our Lady followed by an official Eucharist. This ritual aims to unify faith and sport, offering athletes, their families, and visitors a moment of reflection and spiritual motivation in a place famously known as the "Altar of the World."

Course and Practical Information

Both distances start and finish in front of the Sanctuary of Fátima. The route is characterized by flat asphalt and urban landscapes, making it ideal for those chasing a personal best. Official aid stations are strategically placed every 5 km, with sponge stations available starting at the 7.5 km mark. The race is open to athletes aged 18 and older for the half marathon, and 16 and older for the 10K events. Participants must collect their race kits at the Hotel Cinquentenário on Saturday (11:00 AM – 7:00 PM) or early Sunday morning (7:30 AM – 9:00 AM).

Participant Experience

Every registered runner receives a technical T-shirt, an official finisher medal, and a digital e-certificate. The 2026 event continues to follow international road race standards, with the half marathon distance approved by the Portuguese Athletics Federation and AIMS. While the half marathon and 10K run are competitive, the walk provides a more relaxed alternative, ensuring that "no one is excluded" from the magical atmosphere of running through the historic heart of Fátima.
