Welcome to Otter Creek, where tradition meets trail running. This beloved annual event has been a cornerstone of Louisville's running community since its inception in 2004. Nestled within the serene grounds of Otter Creek Park, managed by Meade County today, this race offers runners an immersive and scenic experience along singletrack trails.
Choose from three distances: 8 miles, 16 miles, or a full marathon (26.2 miles). Each loop features stunning views of Otter Creek, rolling hills that provide both challenge and entertainment, and stretches covered in soft pine needles for comfortable running conditions. Aid stations are well-placed every four to five miles, ensuring runners remain hydrated and fueled throughout their journey.
The event takes place on December 19, 2026, making it the perfect pre-holiday run. Temperatures can vary widely this time of year—expect anything from rain to snow or sunshine. Dress accordingly for an unforgettable experience under any conditions.
Post-race festivities include a chili cook-off that transforms Otter Creek into a festive gathering spot filled with camaraderie and delicious food. Participants have the opportunity to win prizes in both running categories and culinary contests, while every runner receives a long-sleeve shirt. The top three male and female finishers across all race distances will also earn special wooden medals carved each year.

For those looking to extend their stay or simply enjoy a communal atmosphere, two heated cabins are available for reservation by texting 502-220-3440. Each cabin accommodates up to fourteen people on bunk beds and provides an ideal setting for pre-race preparation and post-race relaxation.
