New Year's Day Triathlon

Welcome to the 30th edition of the New Year's Day Triathlon, hosted by Edinburgh Triathletes as part of the vibrant Edinburgh Hogmanay Festival. This annual celebration marks the start of winter sports season with an inclusive and spirited atmosphere that has captivated both newcomers and seasoned athletes for decades.
The event offers a unique blend of challenge and camaraderie, catering to all levels of experience. Whether you're diving into your first triathlon or looking to test your endurance in chilly conditions, this race provides the perfect platform. The course features an invigorating 400-meter swim at the Commie Pool, followed by an exhilarating 11-mile cycle around Arthurs Seat and a concluding 3.5-mile run along its scenic paths.
For those daunted by completing all three disciplines individually, team entries are warmly encouraged, allowing friends or family to share the experience while tackling each segment together. Additionally, young athletes aged 8 to 15 can participate in a specially designed duathlon that includes a short run, a two-kilometer bike ride, and another brief run on closed roads.
Every participant receives a commemorative item to mark their achievement, ensuring lasting memories of this festive event. Over the years, the race has seen an equal number of male and female competitors, fostering a supportive environment where all can thrive regardless of gender or experience level.
