Join us on Saturday, October 31, 2026, for an exciting half marathon that promises to be not just fast but also scenic and enjoyable. The Morgantown Running Halloween Half Marathon offers runners the opportunity to test their limits against a flat and straight course that winds along the beautiful Point Marion/Sheepskin Rail Trail. The race begins at 7:30 AM sharp, with participants starting on pavement near Seneca Center before transitioning onto crushed limestone for most of the journey. The trail is known for its serene beauty as it follows alongside the Monongahela River, offering runners a picturesque view and plenty of shade throughout their run. With the sun rising and morning fog lifting, this course presents an ideal setting to set personal records. The half marathon route spans 13.1 miles in total, with participants covering about 6.55 miles out before turning back for the finish line at Seneca Center. The terrain is flat throughout, making it a perfect choice for runners looking to achieve their best times or simply enjoy an enjoyable run. For those who prefer shorter distances, there's also a one-mile kids race that takes place on the same rail trail but follows a simpler out-and-back course near Core Arboretum. This event starts at 8:15 AM and is designed for young runners to experience the thrill of racing in a safe environment alongside their parents. Race organizers have put safety first, providing water stations every two miles from mile 2 onwards, as well as energy gels along the route to keep participants fueled throughout their run. With a strict four-hour time limit, all participants are encouraged to pace themselves accordingly and stay on track for a successful finish. Top male and female runners will be rewarded with more than just recognition; first-place winners in each category receive a free pair of Hoka shoes, adding an extra incentive to push towards the top spot. Age group awards are also available across various categories from 19 & under up through those aged 90+ years old. Registration closes on October 24th online but you can still sign up at Morgantown Running in person with cash or check until race day, including early packet pickup options starting Friday the 30th. Come dressed to impress and ready for a fantastic run amidst some of Western Pennsylvania's most stunning fall scenery!
