Morgan Hill Trail Races

Nestled within Morgan Hill State Forest, the Morgan Hill Half Marathon and "Meat Grinder" Marathon offer runners an unforgettable trail running experience through Central New York's breathtaking terrain. These races take place on September 19, 2027, during a time when fall colors paint the landscape and cooler temperatures make for ideal racing conditions.
The half marathon course spans approximately 13.4 miles with nearly two thousand three hundred feet of elevation gain. Runners will traverse single-track trails alongside misty ponds, climb to stunning vistas, and cross paths with cascading waterfalls. The route also ventures onto the highest point in Onondaga County before looping back through mountain bike trails and returning via the scenic Onondaga Trail.
For those seeking a greater challenge, the marathon distance is about 26.2 miles, featuring even more elevation changes totaling nearly four thousand three hundred feet. In addition to the half marathon's highlights, this longer route includes an out-and-back stretch on the Onondaga Trail and two loops around Fellows Hill, adding layers of difficulty and beauty.
Both races start and finish at Morgan Hill State Forest Parking, where runners will find camping available for those wishing to extend their adventure. Aid stations are strategically placed along both courses—two for the half marathon and four for the full marathon—to provide essential supplies such as water, Skratch electrolyte drink mix, orange slices, bananas, pickles, peanut butter sandwiches on jelly bread (PB&Js), potato chips, pretzels, Oreos, and various candies. Ice is also offered at stations when necessary to help runners stay cool.
Participants will receive a pair of highly coveted SCTR socks upon registration. Prizes are awarded to top finishers in each gender division for both distances. The event takes place concurrently with the Hill to Hollow 100km race, making it an attractive option for trail running enthusiasts and ultrarunners alike.
The Morgan Hill Trail Races rely on support from numerous organizations including NYS DEC, Finger Lakes Trail Conference, North Country National Scenic Trail Association CNY Chapter, Highland County Park, ADK-Onondaga Chapter, private landowners, and dedicated volunteers. Runners are encouraged to consider donating during registration; SCTR will match donations up to $250.
