Join us on December 13, 2026, for the DIGITAL BIB Miles for Mark 5K Run/Walk at Prospect Park in Brooklyn. This inspiring event is organized by Mark Lewandowski’s daughters to raise funds and awareness for their father's ongoing recovery journey after a life-altering stroke. Mark suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke in January 2024, leaving doctors with little hope of survival. After months in a coma with "locked-in syndrome," he began an arduous path toward rehabilitation that has spanned two years and multiple hospitals. Though his progress is remarkable, Mark remains wheelchair-bound and requires full-time care. The funds raised will go towards acquiring a specialized wheelchair designed to meet Mark’s medical needs and provide him greater mobility at home and in the community. Additionally, they aim to secure an accessible van for transportation purposes not covered by insurance. These items are essential for ensuring that Mark can attend family milestones and maintain his independence despite current limitations. Before the stroke, Mark was a dedicated conservationist who worked with tortoises both locally at Prospect Park Zoo and internationally in Madagascar. His passion extended beyond work to include spending time driving his old truck, kayaking, boating, hiking, and being there for every event of his five children's lives. Today’s goal is not only about medical needs but also reconnecting Mark with the simple joys that make life fulfilling. Participants will gather at Prospect Park in Brooklyn on December 13th to run or walk a scenic 5K route through this iconic green space, celebrating resilience and community support. Each entrant receives a commemorative T-shirt, finisher medal, and buff as part of their race entry fee. Join us for an event that honors Mark’s legacy while raising vital funds and awareness for his ongoing recovery journey. Together, we can help ensure that Mark remains present at family milestones and continues to experience life beyond the confines of medical care. This is more than a run; it's about celebrating hope, resilience, and community support in overcoming adversity.
