Les traces de Champniers 2026

Champniers, a charming commune nestled in the heart of France, is set to host its annual "Les Traces de Champniers" sports festival on September 27, 2026. This beloved community event has been running for over a decade and continues to evolve, offering both runners and hikers unique routes through some of the most picturesque landscapes in Charente.
The race starts at Complex des Cloux located at Rue des Geais, Champniers (16430), where participants will embark on scenic trails that wind their way through lush forests, charming woods, winding paths, and monotracks. The courses are designed to minimize the use of paved roads, providing runners with an immersive experience in natural terrain.
This year's event features three running circuits: a 10km route, a challenging 15km course, and a longer 22km trail. Additionally, there is a leisurely 9km hiking circuit for those who prefer to explore the area at a more relaxed pace while still enjoying breathtaking views of Champniers' countryside.
Registration begins early in September with limited spots available—only 500 places across all running categories and an additional 250 slots reserved specifically for the walking route. Participants completing any distance longer than 10km will receive commemorative bracelets as a token of appreciation, adding to the sense of camaraderie among runners.
All proceeds from this event are donated to "Ensemble déplaçons les montagnes," an association dedicated to promoting access to natural spaces for individuals with disabilities. The organization provides adaptive equipment such as joélettes to ensure that everyone can partake in these outdoor adventures regardless of physical limitations.
The race has also been integrated into the Charente Trail Challenge since 2023, further enhancing its prestige and drawing runners from across France who are eager to take on this challenging yet rewarding course. Participants should note that registration requirements include either an Athlé Compétition, Athlé Entreprise or Athlé Running license issued by the FFA (French Athletics Federation) for those under 18 and adults alike, or proof of completion of a Parcours de Prévention Santé (PPS) within three months prior to the event date. No medical certificates will be accepted after April 2024.
To ensure an environmentally conscious approach throughout the race, participants are encouraged to bring their reusable Eco tasses for refreshments available along the routes and at the finish line. This initiative supports sustainable practices while ensuring everyone stays hydrated during their journey through Champniers' scenic trails.
