The route follows well-marked footpaths and bridleways, with a mix of rugged trails making up about 80% of the total distance. The remaining 20% consists of minor roads and lanes that connect these paths seamlessly. Runners will encounter diverse terrain including lush fields, dense woods, and picturesque views stretching across West Yorkshire’s rolling hills.
Starting early in the morning at St John's Community Church on Harrogate Road in Bradford (BD10 0BB), participants can choose between two start times: a challenging 5am departure for those aiming to complete within an extended timeframe of up to 24 hours, or an earlier 8am kickoff designed primarily for runners looking to finish the course inside 18 hours. Both options allow ample daylight and twilight running, with strategic checkpoints along the way providing essential support.
At each checkpoint, competitors will find a variety of food and drink supplies such as water, bananas, sweets, crisps, cake bars, and other energy-boosting snacks. The half-way point features a major aid station where runners can also leave their drop bags for necessary items like extra clothing or shoes.
The event is meticulously planned with safety in mind; all participants receive detailed route maps via GPX files to help navigate the course accurately. Runners are encouraged to carry mobile devices equipped with these maps as well as headtorches and waterproof jackets, ensuring they remain prepared regardless of changing weather conditions throughout their journey.
In addition to self-sufficiency, the Leeds Country Way In a Day welcomes pacers who can provide moral support along sections of the route but must not transport any mandatory equipment for entrants.
