The Leeds Country Way In a Day 100km offers runners an unparalleled journey around the vibrant city of Leeds, tracing approximately 62 miles through picturesque countryside and charming villages. This challenging yet rewarding race is designed for endurance enthusiasts who are ready to explore the best that Yorkshire has to offer.
Starting from Miners Welfare Hall in Garforth at 5:00 AM or 8:00 AM, depending on your preferred finish time (16 hours or less), participants will embark on a route that winds through scenic trails and minor roads. The majority of the course—around 80% trail and 20% road—is marked with Owl plaques and signposts for easy navigation. As night falls, additional reflective markers guide runners along the final stretch.
The race takes place over diverse terrain including footpaths, bridleways, and some minor roads, providing a mix of rural landscapes and built-up areas. Runners will encounter extensive views to the West and North Yorkshire countryside, making this event not only challenging but also visually stunning. However, keep in mind that weather conditions leading up to race day can significantly affect underfoot conditions.
Support along the route is robust, with nine aid stations offering water, coke, snacks, and essential supplies like drop bags at two indoor checkpoints complete with hot food and toilets. Live tracking through Open Tracking ensures friends and family can follow your progress from afar, while on-site medical assistance provides peace of mind for all participants.
Upon crossing the finish line back at Miners Welfare Hall, runners will be greeted not only by their cheering supporters but also a hearty post-race meal to celebrate their achievement. Each participant receives an exclusive wooden medal as recognition for completing this remarkable feat.
To ensure safety and success on race day, mandatory kit includes a phone or watch with the GPX map of route (or paper map), headtorch with sufficient battery life, waterproof jacket, survival blanket, warm hat or wrap, and capacity to carry 1 liter of water.
