Leeds Country Way In A Day 100km

About the Event

The Leeds Country Way In a Day 100km is an epic adventure around the vibrant city of Leeds, weaving through rural landscapes and neighboring villages. Spanning approximately 62 miles (100 kilometers), this endurance challenge follows the LCW footpaths that wind their way across public rights of way including bridleways and minor lanes, with stunning views stretching out over West Yorkshire's countryside.
The route is roughly 80% trail and 20% road, offering a mix of soft surfaces underfoot and paved stretches. The terrain varies from rolling hills to flat farmland, providing runners with an engaging test that showcases the diverse beauty of Leeds' surroundings. Participants can expect lush parks, serene nature reserves, and charming villages along their journey.
Registration for this event is available at St John's Community Church in Greengates, BD10 0BB on both Friday evening (optional) from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday morning from 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM. The race kicks off early with a 5:00 AM start for those aiming to complete the course in under 24 hours, followed by an official start at 8:00 AM.
Throughout the day, runners are supported by nine aid stations equipped with live tracking via Open Tracking Support and drop bags for essential items. Key checkpoints include Cookridge (10km), Wike Lane (21km), Thorner (31km), Garforth Miner’s Welfare Hall (43km) with a 3:00 PM cutoff, Methley (56km), Robin Hood (66km), Woodkirk Parish Hall (77km) with an 11:00 PM cutoff, Tong Beck (89km), and Thornbury (96km).
The race offers robust amenities such as a wooden medal for all finishers, post-race meals, and free DNF transport to the finish line after 20:00. Medical support is also available throughout.
To ensure safety and navigation accuracy, runners are required to carry essential items like a phone or watch with sufficient battery life (or paper map), headtorch with adequate power for dusk conditions, waterproof jacket, foil blanket/survival blanket, warm hat/scarf, and the capacity to hold at least one liter of water. Recommended gear includes spare batteries/power banks, extra maps, and additional layers.
The Leeds Country Way In a Day 100km is not just about pushing physical limits but also immersing oneself in the rich natural beauty and community spirit that defines this part of Yorkshire. Whether you're an experienced ultrarunner or looking to tackle your first ultra-distance event, the LCW offers a memorable challenge with stunning scenery and supportive communities along the way.
Runners are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the official route via GPX files available for download online, ensuring they can navigate confidently through this picturesque circuit around Leeds.
