La Jornada de las Quebradas

Experience an unforgettable trail running adventure at Socorro’s ultra minimalist race, where runners will encounter stunning scenery and challenging terrain. This race offers an authentic old-school ultrarunning feel with limited course markings and basic aid stations along the way.
The race begins early morning from a small pullout off Quebradas backcountry byway, just minutes away from Escondida Lake Picnic Area, which provides ample parking for carpooling runners looking to avoid bumpy sections of road. Participants will be greeted with well-maintained dirt roads leading up to the start line and at least two portable toilets available on-site.
The race route itself features a mix of rugged trails that wind through scenic desert landscapes, offering breathtaking views of Socorro’s natural beauty. As runners progress along the course, they’ll face varied terrain including rocky paths, steep climbs, and serene stretches alongside Escondida Lake.
Registration includes a meal from local food truck Cubish, free event photos, an event shirt for early registrants (those who sign up before February 1st), and a portion of profits donated to support the Socorro High School Cross Country team and trail maintenance. First-place finishers in each category will receive a $50 REI gift card as well as a customized trophy.
Participants are encouraged to arrive between 6:00-6:45 AM for check-in, where bibs will be distributed at the start line. The race is designed to foster community and appreciation of Socorro’s unique trail running opportunities, inviting runners from all levels to embrace the challenge and beauty of this minimalist event.
