La Cavale

La Cavale transforms Biarritz's Hippodrome des Fleurs into an electrifying nighttime spectacle on November 28, 2026. Nestled along the Basque coast in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, this race invites runners to experience a unique twist on traditional track racing. As night falls over the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region, participants gather at the illuminated racetrack, where they'll face an exhilarating challenge: avoid being caught by the Trackers.
The event unfolds with all runners starting together under the arch of the grandstand before a pack of selected pursuers sets off behind them. The initial pace is relaxed, but as each lap progresses, it accelerates incrementally. Runners must maintain their speed to stay ahead; once captured, they're marked by a shot from a laser pistol and are out of contention.
La Cavale's concept mirrors an elimination race in track cycling or the backyard ultra format, where endurance meets strategy. The ranking is based on distance covered before being caught, with the final free runner crowned victorious. Organized by agency Hondarra and Mouvement Running Club, this event celebrates local culture and community spirit, drawing inspiration from Biarritz's rich running tradition.
After the race, runners can refuel at a post-race gathering featuring traditional Basque treats like cream-filled cakes and chipirons cooked with Espelette pepper. The next day offers opportunities to explore the coastline on an easy jog along the seafront or venture up to the Biarritz lighthouse for panoramic views of Spain.
La Cavale is more than just a race; it's an immersive experience that blends sport, culture, and community in one unforgettable evening.
