Kruger2Canyon Challenge 2027

Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of South Africa's northern Drakensberg region with the Kruger2Canyon Challenge. This trail experience spans two days, offering runners four meticulously crafted distances that traverse the breathtaking landscapes of Mariepskop and the Blyde River Canyon, alongside stretches within the Kruger National Park.
The challenge features a grueling 70km route (42km + 28km) for seasoned adventurers seeking an extreme test. For those looking to tackle marathon distance in two stages, there's a 44km option (26km + 18km). A more moderate 30km course (16km + 14km), introduced in 2023, is ideal for hikers and trail runners alike. The most accessible route is the new 20km event (10km + 10km) that allows participants to enjoy the scenery without climbing Mariepskop.
Each race day begins early with a sunrise start at 5:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday, ensuring you experience the stunning vistas under clear morning skies. Aid stations are strategically placed every 7-14 kilometers along fully marked trails, eliminating any need for GPS navigation or self-guiding.
Accommodation is provided in simple tented setups near the race village or dormitory-style rooms at a nearby school, complete with meals from Friday dinner to Sunday brunch (vegetarian options available). Offsite accommodations are also an option within 1.3km to 8km of the venue.
On-site activities include wildlife demonstrations and informative presentations that enhance your understanding of the local environment and conservation efforts. The event's proceeds contribute directly to environmental preservation through a R200 conservation fee per entry, supporting the Kruger2Canyons Biosphere NPC.
