KNRM West Coast Challenge

On December 12, 2026, the 17th KNRM West Coast Challenge will take place along the Dutch coastline, offering an extraordinary endurance event. Participants, consisting of two people and one bicycle, alternate between running and cycling to raise funds for the KNRM (Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue).
The full challenge spans a total distance of 130 kilometers, almost entirely over sandy beaches from Hoek van Holland to Den Helder. In addition to this complete route for duo teams, there is also a half Challenge covering 62 kilometers, starting in Velsen-Noord and finishing at the KNRM booth on Bevesierweg in Den Helder.
The full West Coast Challenge begins early Saturday morning at 4:30 AM from the KNRM boathouse in Hoek van Holland. The half Challenge starts later that day at 11:00 AM near Restaurant SeaYou in Velsen-Noord, providing participants with a scenic and challenging course along the North Sea coast.
Beyond its athletic appeal, this event is also a unique way to support the vital work of the KNRM by raising funds for essential equipment like new survival suits needed by volunteer rescuers. Participants are encouraged not only through registration fees but also via sponsorship contributions from their teams.
Throughout the route, participants receive assistance and encouragement from members of the KNRM, who also transport runners across the North Sea Canal using rescue boats during the full challenge course. With limited spots available—only 150 places in total—the event is expected to attract a dedicated group of athletes eager to contribute both physically and financially.
This year’s West Coast Challenge promises an unforgettable experience for those looking to push their limits while supporting a worthy cause on one of Europe's most scenic coastal routes.
